Doin’ the Happy Dance

Yea, yea, I know it’s been a while, I’m sorry. Hunter had a short version of the stomach bug last week, Wednesday and I kept him home from Daycare on Thursday. I never really got the full blown stomach thing, but I sure wasn’t feeling the best on Saturday. Thanks to everyone for your well wishes, they really mean a lot to me.

Since my husband’s employer sucks, I always have to take sick duty. In order to take Thursday off, I had to cancel a meeting and whatnot and here I am, a week later, still playing catch up at work. That’s what happens when you are doing two jobs, but that’s okay

Anyone who has been around here lately knows how much I hate my current job. My last job was awesome! I was the Director of Administrative Services at the Pontiac Silverdome – the previous home of the Detroit Lions. After the Lions left, the building struggled for several years and finally held its last full-fledged event in January of 2006. I was the last full-time employee there and my job ended in May 1, 2006. And for those keeping track, I was 8 months pregnant. Not a quality most employers are looking for. I was transferred to the City that owns the Stadium to work in the Budget Department – which is where I currently work.

I took a $4 an hour pay cut and they jacked around with my seniority (13 years, out the window - sort of). However, I do realize that I am truly blessed to even have a job in this economy. That’s not the struggle. The struggle is the lack of thought, responsibility and effectiveness that my current position affords me. It was a nice change of pace as I got used to the whole motherhood thing, but now? It’s just boring. I am craving some new opportunities, new experiences and the chance to learn something new career-wise.

Recently I have had the opportunity to assist another department (still in the financial area). I have really been excited to learn another area of governmental finance. And I enjoy keeping so busy. But the city really struggles financially. I can’t get on board with the people that are making the decisions, in my mind they are lacking effectiveness. And politics? … well politics are hard to deal with, at least for me. I’m not a politician, I’m a numbers person. If you ask me what I think… I’m going to tell you. But if you work someplace where the “ism’s*” are a way of life, telling someone how you really feel can be career ending.

* ism’s = nepotism, favoritism, chauvinism are just a few.

Oh yea… the happy dance. I’m doing the happy dance because I have a job interview in three weeks. I am so, SO excited… if I thought I could jump up and click my heals without breaking something… I would. That is all I am going to say, because I don’t want to jinx myself. But if you could send some good vibes my way, I would be ever so grateful.

Christmas Card Experience

This college sums up the Christmas card taking experience perfectly. You can click on it and it will take you to Flickr where you can see the individual pics or the college.

It was hilarious and tons of fun!

ENJOY!

December 12 of 12

This month’s 12 of 12 has been cancelled due to the stomach flu. I got about half way through the day before the daycare called. Since I figured you didn’t want to see several pictures of me cleaning up bodily fluids… and I didn’t really want to take pictures while cleaning up bodily fluids. I have decided to spare you the details… and the pictures. Sorry.

Depending on what the future holds, you may get an 8 of 12 on the 14th. But I don’t want to count my cookies before they are tossed.

How to waste a day

1. Take a personal day from work.
2. Take your son to daycare (a little later than usual).
3. Stop at Starbucks for a Soy latte.
4. Take long hot (needed) shower.
5. Pick up stuff in living room.
6. Vacuum living room.
7. Leave for Weight Watchers to weigh in.
8. See Dish Network truck pulling in wrong drive way.
9. Stop to see if the Dish Network guy is looking for your house (15 minutes earlier than scheduled time of appointment window - noon to 5PM).
10. Don’t go to WW, turn around and let Dish Network guy follow you home.
11. Explain to Dish Network guy what you’re are expecting.
12. Hang out without being too intrusive.
13. Occasionally check on two large dogs locked in bedroom, because Dish Network guy is fearful.
14. At 5:15 PM WHEN DISH GUY FINALLY FINISHES AND LEAVES go get son from daycare.
15. Ponder how you will ever get those 5 ½ hours of your life back.
16. Blog about it.

I’m sure it’s not the drunken photos you were expecting. But I also expected to have a designated driver and I didn’t. So you just have to settle for pictures of good friends, slightly lite. hehehe

Silly isn’t it?

It feels like I have to post something.

It’s been kind of a rough day and the little guy is STILL awake - seriously cutting into my ME time. WTF. He better not be up at 7 AM or I’m going to be very testy tomorrow too.

But Sheryl, why was today so rough? you ask.

Well, you know yesterday when I used the Placecard post because I was going out with some old friends and MY HUSBAND? Well my dear hubby had to work late and couldn’t go. Also, he has to be at work at 5:00 AM this morning. So I hadn’t seen my hubby for days. And today’s half a day of work didn’t end until after 3:30 PM.

We had decided in advance to do some Saturday errand together. So they didn’t start until after 4. What a waste of the day… waiting for someone.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not mad at my hubby. But I HATE his employer. How do you get away with not telling your employees how long they are going to be working? How do you get away with making people work ridiculous hours this week for inventory and then cut their hours to less than 40 next week? Well, at least that is what they say now. Man, I sure wish hubby could find a new gig. But how do you job hunt when you have been working 5 or 6 AM to 7 to 9 PM? Stupid stupids!

Stop by tomorrow for pictures. I was going to post some today, but I decided to post them tomorrow with my weekly winners. You’ve got to come back and see the one of Hunter in the bathtub WITH his pj’s on. I was warming the water up before I put the plug in the drain. Walked into his room to get a diaper and some clothes. Came back into the bathroom and there he was, IN the tub, playing IN the water IN his footy pajamas. Priceless. And honestly, very scary… I was literaly gone for seconds. I don’t think I would have left the shower doors open, if the stopper had been in… but I’m not sure… however… now I am.
